Hole in head, help?

This evening I found a hole in my Leopard Gecko's head on his right side. He was fine and vibrant in the morning so I'm not sure what happened. Any help would be appreciated.

It's very hard to tell from the picture. Does it look like a bloody abrasion or it truly a hole that's deep? Or is it just a black splotch that's smooth to the touch?
