Hookworms - crickets eating gecko poop

Ok guys.....here it is....THANK YOU GECKOS ETC. My Geckos have been diagnoised with hookworm eggs. Geckos Etc has a good page full of info on this topic geckosetc.com. I thought I was cleaning my cage & good with this but things happened that I didn't expect.

1) I leave my crickets in their cage sometimes a little too long apparently. The crickets eat the Gecko's poop (even though I take the poop out as soon as I see it). Unfortunately there is time for the crickets to eat it sometimes.

This is most likely the cause. However, the moist hide could be another problem. I don't change my coco fiber very often. I just keep moisting it. Daisy likes to poop in there at times.....another bad thing. I never changed it. I just kept taking the poop itself out. :( Live & learn.

I thought I was taking good care of them but obviously there were things I didn't know.

2) My one Female Sobe has the beginning stages of MBD too. I kept calcium in there but it must of been outdated (no date on the bottle). Now she struggles to walk. I bought new stuff with an expiration date & they seem to be licking this stuff up.

So just becareful & don't take hygien for granted. It is very important & watch what your worms & crickets are eating....that is so important. For the moist hide. I will be placing moist paper towels in it & changing those every day.

They cant absorb the calcium without a d3 supplement. So make sure your multi-vitamin has d3 in it.
