Hormone treated giant mealworms?

I ran out of mealworms the other day and went to a fish shop to get some. I noticed some of those mealworms are larger than the standard adult mealworm (they aren't supers); so how do I tell if they are normal mealworms or if they are those hormone treated ones (is not a myth, right?)? So far, I don't see any pupae in there.

If they are the hormone treated ones, how big can they get?

The ones I've seen are about an inch, inch and a half long. Some may be smaller than that. They're bodies are thicker too.

From my understanding all jumbo mealworms are hormone treated. And they will pupate - atleast the ones I have do. But apparently the adult beetle will be infertile.

Really, if it was a bad hormone, they wouldn't be working for countless people.

I've fed regulars, and giants too all of my animals in the past and no ill effects.

It's basically the hormone an insect injects into them to slow down the pupaetion process.

I have a lot of pupae and beetles now and am going to see if that whole sterile thing is correct.

Giant's dont' get that large, but they are thicker then normal meal worms.
