Everywhere I read says room temp.

One site I read said 85 at the hottest. Any feeder website has a "care guide" for their feeders. Mealworms, crickets, etc...

Hope this helped.

The higher temp over 90 for a long period of time will kill off a few but honestly I think IMO that higher temps only speed up metabolism and metamorphosis.

Mealworms are pretty hardy when it comes to shipping. I recently ordered 500 and expected them to ship the following Monday when the temperatures in both locations were nice and cool. For whatever reason, they didn't ship until 2 weeks later, when the temperatures were over 100F. I really expected a box full of DoAs. They spent 3 days in transit in that heat, and surprisingly they were fine when they arrived. Yes, there were some dead, but no more than I would expect with any order regardless of temperature.

There are a few different things to keep into consideration when ordering mealworms.

The biggest is the method of service. I shipped all my worms Fedex priority overnight and 2day AM. I cant recommend enough on having them delivered in the AM. Cause even if they managed to make it that far without being DOA they will surely bake on the back of a hot delivery truck.

I usually ship out about 300K mealworms weekly and my DOA stats are
Priority Overnight less than 1%
Fedex 2day AM 6%
Keep in mind some of the destinations are seeing temps in the hi 90's

Also think about when you use a 2day service that box sits out the sort facility the whole day before it supposed to be delivered to you. I know the temps in Memphis, TN (fedex hub where almost all boxes go) has been seeing temps in the mid to hi 90's. I have to imagine it isnt fully climate controlled there.

But dont let that get you down more than likely you will still be fine with a 2day service as long as its either held for pickup or delivered in the AM before the afternoon heat takes its toll
