Housing a new Gecko

We have two Leopard geckos now, one female and one male. Both are housed by themselves in 40gallon takes each. My question is can I introduce a new adult female into the first females tank?.I know not to do that with males but am unsure about the females. She has been alone since my son and I bought her when she was about 2 inches long.

Perhaps clean out the female's tank first and move some stuff around just so she doesn't feel as if its her territory that a stranger is coming into.

put them next to each other in the tank and see what they do.. that should answer your question

I would keep the new and 'old' animals separated for a few weeks to make sure there are no deceases or parasites that can infect your population (quarantine). After that you can introduce the animals to eachother. Be aware of the fact that females can also fight, but that won'n be a problem. If they do, don't panic and don't separate the animals immediately! Give 'em some time to get used to eachother. If you separate them every time they fight, they never 'get to know' eachother and they will keep fighting every time you introduce them. Be patient and not too cautious, let them determine the hierarchy themselves.

As long as the females are the same size they might be able to be put together. I had two females together for over a year. There was a little nipping every now and then but it was normally because one decided the other was a nice thing to walk over. It was nothing too bad. They even slept next to each other. A couple months ago they got in a huge fight when I wasn't home and I came home to see one of my geckos had a massive deep bite on her leg. If you keep them together, just be really careful. They can turn against each other later.

I think that when there are more than one animals in a cage, social behavior will occur and fighting is also social behavior. Just clean the wound, let it heal and you can put the animals together again in my opinion. If you don't want to take the risk of fighting of any kind, than you have to house the animals individually...
