Housing gravid females

How do you house your gravid females? Besides the usual thing. Do you keep the male in the whole season or will this stress her out? Can you house multiple gravid females together? Can you keep non gravid and gravid females together? What size tub do you keep them if housed singly? And how do fit a lay box in if kept in a 15qt tub?

Normal housing rules apply, but you might have difficulty knowing which female laid which eggs.

-take the male out after doing his part.
- separate fighting or different sized females.
-alot of people use a 15qt tub for 1 sub adult...larger tub for more fixtures or
-very large tub for 2 or more adults
-xtra large tub for 2 adult female with laybox.

Use this forums search to find "poll: tub size" :)

I have a couple males that are bigger than my females and super randy. I don't keep them with the females for more than a few hours. I have a couple others that are about the same size and tolerated very well by the females so they get to live in a group all season. If you currently have your females together and they're getting along I don't see any reason to separate them. If they start to fight or the one you're breeding starts to look skinny I would move them so you can better monitor eating and egg laying.

Here's a picture of how I have enclosures set up for my breeding females that are kept alone:

I keep my males and females together, generally in 1.2 for the whole season. I've only had one occurrance where I woke up to 4 eggs in the lay box and didn't know which female did what. Everything has worked out OK for the last 9 years, so I'll continue that way.

I stopped using the little brown hides a while ago so can't take another picture of that exact bin. I've been using deli trays like the one in this photo since. Here's a picture that's a bit more direct so you can see more of the bin. It's a 15qt sterilite bin in both pictures. For the bins that have females that are gravis or laying I also include a dish of pure calcium and use cocofiber in their lay boxes (this one has sphagnum moss).
