What happens when geckos are kept in housing that is too small for them? This is just a curiosity question. I know that it is not good, but I am looking for more detailed information to give to others. If one was kept in a 5 gallon, would it fail to thrive, or would there be other signs?

ideally a big guy would come and smack the owner in the head like on those V8 commercials...

It would probably be very difficult for the gecko to thermoregulate itself. Trying to keep one side hot while the other side at room temperature might not be possible. It already looks kinda cramped when we have our geckos in 15q. tubs, imagine something smaller than that.

Stress. Probably leading to decreased immunofunction, disease, etc. Physical injuries from rubbing can occur in some reptiles too.

A not so happy gecko. And problems regulating it's temperature.

Imagine living in a tiny room for the rest of your life...like a prison cell.
