Housing two females together OK?

Right now I have a 15G tank separated into two partitions for my two female leopard geckos. The floor space is rather small, but because of the nature of Japanese houses my apartment tends to be rather cold. In this setup I can provide enough under-tank heat as well as a non-light heat source on the top of the cage as well. Previously in the autumn I had them in two separate plastic tanks, but I cannot use the mounted heater with anything but a glass tank which I switched them into.

Is it safe for two females to be in one 15G tank together? If they can get along (they're the same size roughly) I'd prefer them to have more floor space and still enjoy a safe climate.

Any advising is much appreciated. In about a month or two it will be warm enough for me to separate them into two cages again, but until then... :main_robin:

It really depends on who you ask. lol! I house all of my geckos separately just to prevent any potential bullying etc. However in the past I had two groups of females (groups of 3) housed together and never seemed to have an issue. I will say that (IMO) it is easier to house females together starting at a young age (like clutch mates) versus putting them together once they are older and unfamiliar with each other.

Depends on the females too. Some females can do well with others, while some just can't. I wouldn't suggest trying it in a 15 gallon though (unless they're tiny hatchlings). Personally, I wouldn't try housing two in anything less than a 30 gallon, with two hides in each gradient for each gecko, as well as two humid hides, two calcium dishes, two water dishes, etc. Just to make sure there is always free access to everything and reduce fighting over resources.

I would be worried to house together even if they don't fight, there is always a possibility that they could fight and they get injured. If it is just temporary then it might work out.

I think 15 gallon is too small for 2 leos also. And I wouldn't house them together, because that is not their natural way. They are not social creatures. I know Ozy would probably pitch a FIT if I tried to put another gecko in with her! LOL! Ozy's a greedy, spoiled brat though. hehehehe

I have no problems housing my geckos in small groups. You can add space to a 15 gallon tank by building a second level. In general you need something stable for the 4 legs (I use PVC pipe) and then 2 tiles for the upper "floor" which sandwich a mini (1-5 gallon) UTH. You also need a way for the gecko to get up to the second level. Some people build in ramps. I use my humid hide which they can climb on top of to get "upstairs".
