How can I feed her?

That little enigma that is barely a gram has pottied (twice), but it won't even look at the tiny mealworms. She walks around, but she seems a little weak. I thought about making Marcia's slurry, but I'm not sure how to feed something so tiny. Any advice for feeding?

i have no idea in all honesty... as ive yet to deal with hatchlings so to speak... but i would think slurry and smaller drops would be a good start? just put a tiny bit on its nose and let it lick it off... and just keep doing that... as to how much in one serving i have no idea... best of luck with the lil one!!!

I have learned that if you rub the side of their mouth with your finger they will open it and then I put a few drops of slurry just inside their mouth on their tongue and then when they close their mouth they eat it. But with her being so small I am not sure. Maybe try rubbing a tiny mealworm on her mouth until she eats it? I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks! I tried rubbing a mealworm on her mouth, but she wouldn't open for it. I'm going to try to get the ingredients for the slurry tomorrow and try that. I'll have to buy a smaller dropper, too.

We are going to be getting the stuff for the slurry tomorrow as well, as our newest gecko isn't eating very much and his tail is very thin.

Do you have any syringe's from a past vet visit? That is what we use to hand feed, but a small dropper will work well too. I had to hand feed our little "bubble-butt" ever since his first shed, (3 or 4 days old) for a long time, and was also administering medicine daily up until he was a month old. Needless to say, they get used to being held and being hand-fed, so it at least gets easier with time. He is the most tame gecko we have produced ourselves just because of all that he has gone through.

The tickling of the chin has never worked for me, I don't know why. When I do it, they just stick their tongues out, instead of opening their mouths all the way. So what I have always done is used a syringe and dabbed a little amount of food on their lips and then just sat and wait until they licked it up. Then I just dab more and sit and wait some more.. I've actually hand fed every single one of our geckos (that we have produced) at some point or another, and have always done it this way. I do the same with medicine as well. Just dab it on their lips, and eventually they lick it off. Some are more stubborn than others - some will lap up the food readily, and some will just sit there and refuse; sometimes they even wipe the food off of their face onto my hand.. little buggers! lol

Good luck!

I made the slurry today and he/she has already eaten some. It just licks it off our hand/finger (I do have a syringe that I used, too). I was so happy to see how much she actually ate at once. I'm going to see if she wants some more later.:)

Yes, I haven't gotten the stuff for the slurry yet (waiting until sunset because it's just too darn hot to walk until then lol), but from stories that I have read, not only is it highly beneficial, but the geckos seem to LOVE the taste! Glad that things are going well :D

She's even up to 2 grams already! She looks much better, not as skinny and her skin looks better. She's had some shedding issues with her toes though. I'm not sure if we caught it in time. A few are pretty red. But she's doing well.:) I'll have to get a new picture soon.

What is the recipe for the slurry? I am having trouble with one of my hatchlings. One eats baby crickets like crazy and the other seems to be afraid of them even when I "pre kill". She just doesn't seem to get it. It has been 12 days, and she has not eaten as far as I know. I am feeding them in a seperate container to keep the crickets from chewing on the geckos. She does drink and initially "pooped" after her first shed. She does not look bad, just uninterested in eating. She strikes after a cricket, but does not follow through. Her sister is a little hunter, having no trouble.
