I have recently caught over 12 new banded geckos and i want to make sure they are all healthy. they are all eating fine and pooping I'm just wondering of they might have any sicknesses from being outside. Do i need to take them all to a vet? or are they already fine. I know to keep them away from my other store bought geckos. Any help appreciated.

thanks TY

ALL wild-caught geckos have a normal parasite load that is not problematic until they are stressed, or their enviromental needs are not met.

Without a veterinary fecal examination, it is impossible to tell what kinds of parasites would need treated... and there are different medications depending on the type of parasite.

I keep Coleonyx species, and all of my breeders are wild-caught. I have kept them in naturalistic environments for over 5 years, and have never lost a gecko to a parasitic infection.

I am not a vet. But I do treat EVERY newly acquired reptile with Panacur at a dose of 25 mg/kg of body weight bi-weekly for a period of 6 weeks.

I don't really bother with parasites in newly aquired geckos unless there's an obvious problem. There's a big difference in wc lizards from a petstore and ones you catch yourself. The latter typically haven't been stressed in holding pens/shipping boxes ,etc.

Ok so should i keep my banded geckos in a naturalistic enviroment because i have them on paper towels? Is panacur expensive?

Actually, I keep all my hatchlings and babies on paper towel. I get liquid Panacur from my vet, and it's pretty cheap.

Are your bandeds all eating for you?

Being in captivity IS a stress, at least initially. It also forces the animal to have a much higher chance of autoinfecting themselves (because they can't range over a larger environment). I would worm them as a precaution. You might get lucky and not have any problems, but... better safe than sorry in my opinion. Plus Panacur is pretty cheap.

How do you administer the Panacur to your geckos? And you do it if they have parasites?
