So my leo is pretty well paper-trained to one corner of the tank - The problem is he hasn't settled on one floor, so I was wondering if there were some way I could encourage him to pick one level or the other.

Any thoughts?

In my experience, no lol. I have a hatchling right now that no matter where I put his moist hide, he will go on the paper towel in it. I have another hatchling that insists upon going ON TOP OF her hide, again wherever I place it in the tub. I also have an 8 year old gecko that will move anything and everything I put in the spot she's been using as her litter box for the last few years...she's move plants, hides, etc. They pretty much make up their mind, and that's that :)

Maybe others will have found a way to direct them!

It's true, once they pick a spot, it's hard to get them to change it. The only way to really get a gecko to stop pooping somewhere particular is if they are pooping on a specific object. Like if a gecko is pooping on a hide, you can take the hide out for a week or two until the gecko picks a different place. I suppose if you wanted your gecko to stop pooping in a specific spot, you could try blocking off that spot with a piece of cardboard big enough so that it can't get to the spot. Leave the blockade/wall there for a week or two until she starts pooping somewhere else on a regular basis. I've never done this myself, but I think it would work..

yea my leo goes in one of those foam peekaboo tunnel hides, but i cut mine in half and put it on the short side of the tank, so instead of a tunnel, its a burrow i guess. but she goes in there and i have to take the whole thing out to clean it.....ugh. haha stubborn leos

btw way i was reading in one of my leo books that they like to go in places that they feel secure (bc potty time is a vulnerable time for them haha) so that is probably why they go in those hides. try covering three sides of the tank with one of those background things and take out the hide they are going in and maybe they will feel more secure going in the corner.

Well, when I first got Stripes, he insisted on pooing inside his rock formation hide thing. Then,I took out his rock formation hide thingy and washed it very thoroughly till the smell was gone. After one day, he statred to poo somewhere else. After I put it back, he didn't poo in it anymore.

We have one that loves to back up to the front of the glass on his tank and go. It's easy to clean but kind of discusting. He is a giant and has rather large poos, LOL>

hmm... on second thought I think I'll just shut my big fat mouth and be thankful he's not taken to leaving me presents in the hides ;)

At least it's only two spots I have to check.

You are 100% correct about that.
I have a young lady (a leo I mean, not a person!! :main_laugh:) who just thinks its the coolest thing in the world to poop in the water dish!! :main_rolleyes:
Sometimes, I can swear I hear laughter :main_laugh:

Could be worse - I had a tortoise who thought the water dish was a wonderful toilet - complete with "stomp on the rim to 'flush'" action.
