How good are Beardies as pets?

I currently have 1 Ball Python and 2 Leopard Geckos. I'm considering getting either a Kingsnake or a Beardie. I know what Kings are like. But I've never been around Beardies. So, how easy are they to keep?

If you're comfortable with providing a larger space than leopard geckos use, correct lighting and a veggie and cricket diet (or at least comfortable with getting familiar with it), you should enjoy a beardie very much. They can enjoy human interaction and are very entertaining. I have read that the babies eat huge amounts; I adopted my beardie when she was 4 and am having a great time with her. Read some care sheets and see if you're still interested.

Their care is a bit harder, but they have so much personality. It's totally worth it. Once you have the set-up and temps right, then it's not too hard. Ours mainly eats dubias and greens with the occasional silkworm or hornworm. He's really smart and knows my voice. He loves music and listens to the tv when it's on. He also knows the sound of the door and knows what the roach container is.:)

When my Arogon was a baby, he would eat about 100-150 small crickets a day. He is 15 months old now and he eats fewer crickets and more greens . They are alot of fun but also alot of work. He gets baths every other day. They also require UVB lighting and a basking spot. If you have time and space, they are great pets!

Beardie supplies are about the only downfall, I got mine for free and still spent over 100 bucks on lighting and set-up stuff. But its worth every penny. Harvey is so much fun to watch eat and bask. He's always interested in whats going on in the room. With the right food you can get them on a vegitarian diet, but watching him run down crickets or post up in one spot and wait for the parade to walk past is fun.

Much harder to care for than leos but so worth it.

Treat them right and you'll have a long-time pal. My beardie's so friendly, chill, and easy to handle.. He's the perfect reptilian pet. :)

if you give them proper care (food, lighting, heating, etc.) they are very easy to take are of once you get into the rythm of things. beardies are what got me into the reptile hobby.
