I promised this earlier in the week and even though I have way too much stuff to do, I sat down tonight and tallied my results from the 2013 season. I offer this as data that will hopefully be helpful to both new and established breeders:
Leopard Geckos ($25-75):
58 live hatches
1 escaped as a hatchling
1 had mild deformities and was given to the local gecko sanctuary
1 held back
30 shipped to BenSiegel Reptile store in FL
8 sold at reptile expos
17 sold to individuals (former customers, people on craigslist looking for geckos, people who googled "leo breeders in MA" and found me)
Fat Tail geckos ($40)
10 live hatches
4 died due to rack heat spike
5 sold at reptile expos
1 sold to individual
Coleonyx (SW banded geckos) ($25-40)
12 live hatches
11 sold at reptile expos
1 sold to individual
Gargoyle Geckos ($60-90)
9 live hatches
6 sold at reptile expos
3 sold to individuals
I was most surprised this year at how few leopard geckos I sold at reptile expos and how many I sold to individuals. The shipment of 30 geckos to Ben Siegel's Reptiles made the difference this year between selling out and not selling out. While I've had some pet store sales previous years, I never did this much volume.
I hope that was helpful.
