How long after laying an egg does the female usually breed back? My female laid her 1st egg ever yesterday. She was in heavy ovulation when she bred. The egg was a dud.... i've read that some people breed 2 days after laying... Does she need to be ovulating again ???

thanks for any help

I don't typically breed a female multiple times throughout the season. If I do, I will throw a male in after her 3-4th clutch. Usually about 3 days after her clutch so she has time to relax, eat, and recover before it all begins again.

A lot of first time breeders will slug out their first clutch or two...or their whole season. Doesn't always mean he didn't get the job done.

Geckos don't use sperm the same way humans do - they retain it and release a bit every time they go to lay an egg. There's a chance that if they lay a lot of eggs they can run out so, like Travis said, you can give them another chance at the male if they ovulate again after their third of fourth clutch. Putting the male back in every time she lays might stress her out and she needs her energy to make good eggs :)
