thanks a lot. ive got 2 females here that are my friends one of which just laid a few days ago. both of them desperately need to gain weight back from staying with his mom. any tips for getting weight back on besides extra feedings?
Dubia are good for weight gain, and one of my females that was on the lighter side did well on them this year. Plenty of vitamin dusted feeders and a little container full of calcium without D3 is a must too.
PS- I had one female that consistently laid eggs every two weeks like clockwork this year.
they have plain calcium and get vitamins with d3 already. no one around here sell dubia to even let them try. on top of that i dont think my husband is even fully ok with attempting to breed meal worms so idk how he would take to the dubia.
you live in new york - you should have no problem with access to feeders. try searching for "reptile feeders new york"
to fatten my female up after laying i usually feed a handful of butterworms (although ive been given a mixed opinion on them saying that theyre too fatty and they have no nutrition) and a ton of super worms. my female today ate about 7 supers..should have a nice lil weight gain over the next few days
4 at the max for me. I usually feed 2-4 Super Worms depending on who they are. Fattening up females usually get 3-4 three times a week, males get 2-3 three times a week, and I will feed hatchlings 5-7 mealworms a day.
im trying to fatten her up..so 7 twice a week is about the same as your 4
4 times a week. ive bene doin this for 6months - shes a fat healthy gecko with no signs of any issues or problems
i often give my females one pinky mouse every three weeks or so to keep them plump for breeding. be careful feeding these though as if fed too many it can make them obese.
thanks for the replies. i've been considering trying a pinkie each. so far i've tried a wax worm or two and a few mealies or supers. they don't seem to have gained yet but they haven't lost any more either.
