Hi guys,

I am going to be buying some butterworms soon for my leo and I was just wondering how long they usually last and how i should store them? Should they be stored in the fridge just like mealworms and waxworms? I have never used these type of worms before. Any tips would be welcome. Thanks!

i keep my butters in the fridge but i usally never buy them in bulk like i do crickets and silks but yes this is how to store them (the hot dog compartment is actually used for butter worms) and aslong as they have food i think they would last along time atleast a week or 2 i atcually had one in my chameleon tank that pupated but nothing came out

They will actually do quite well in the fridge if you keep fresh carrot slices in with them.....change them every few days.
Remember that only some leos will eat butters. Select the smaller butters for your small leos, etc.
Juvies will often eat small butters, but many adults give them the stinkeye. But for the leos that will eat them, they are a nice alternate feeder for them.
Leos that do eat them seem to get a boost in their coloration for some reason, maybe the pigment in the butters. ?
Let us know how you do with them. Good luck.

Designer Gecko, do you mean that as a treat or could they be a regular staple feeder? I was under the impression butterworms were for the occasional treat just like waxworms?

I think they are best as an occasional treat, though butters are far better than waxies, which are candy. It is rare to find a leo that will eat them daily as a staple anyway. I find some of the juvies will eat the small butters eagerly. Adults, not so much. Same deal with silkworms, some like em but many do not.
