How many mealworms?

Well right now I have 4 leopards eating meal worms and I am wondering how many meal worms do I need to start a breeding colony for my four Leopard Geckos?I am going to probably breed them next year so hopefully I am going to get at least 4 more(I hope).

I started my colony with a thousand mealies. You can't feed off that many to four geckos before they start to pupate.

Well here is the thing the ones I bought was labeled was just plain meal worms but when I looked they were mini mealies =(
So I am guessing on the size of the mealies I am bought some mealworms that are a nice size from pet co and they look they are about to pupate.So now I am going to buy more from them because a lot of local feeder suppliers have mini's.I was talking to someone they said 1500 would be a nice number because now my brother wants to start giving some to hes Crested's as a treat.

I started in august with 0 beetles. I buy regular sized mealies in tubs of 500, and (not even intentionally) I noticed that some of the mealies pupated while still in the feeding bowls of the geckos. So i took them out and put them in a separate tub. They wound up turning into beetles. I have about 80-100 beetles now just from leftover mealworms. They have laid hundreds (maybe thousands) of eggs since then, and our first mealworms laid way back in august are just about the size needed to feed our geckos. We now have hundreds of mealworms, most of them still babies, but we do have about 100 regular sized at this point. Starting in about a month, I will no longer need to buy them from the stores.

We feed them to 5 leopard geckos.

I had no luck trying to breed mealies. they all died. so i keep on buying and will most likely try again when i can get more room and geckos. i only have two geckos but my leo goes though them like they are nothing. she is eating 10-20 daily i dont know if that good or not but i guess it is. My crestie is eating 2-3 daily which is an improvment from when i first got him.
