How much substrate?

So my new tank is going to be a medium sized exo terra reptile terrarium (tall)...The store that I am getting my bedding from for this tank sells it in 8 qt bags....How many do you think I will need to give my geckos an adequate amount to dig and lay eggs in? I am unsure of the dimensions right now but as soon as I know for sure I will post them... Also, I will be getting a 55 gallon tank as well and the bedding I am using for that comes in 10 qt bags. How many of those ones will I need? I am wanting to have like 2"-4" of substrate in the bottom of that tank...

If you live near the store, you can get one bag, and dump it in the tank first, then see how much more you would need to fill it to a point where you like it, or you can get like 5 bags, and if you have extra, return it.

4 qts is about 1 gallon. just don't compact the substrate
