How much to feed my gecko and other eating issues

I'm not sure how old he is, but he's about 4.5" long from head to tail.
So how many crickets should I feed him and what size?
Or how many mealworms should I feed him a day? (he seems to like them better, but there seems to be a shortage of them in my area.)

oh and he seems to eat the moist paper towel in his moist shelter. How can i prevent him from doing that without removing the moist shelter?

Sam, the general rule is, never feed anything larger than the width of your leo's head.
For your leo (sounds like a juvie) buy 1/2 to 3/4'' crix.
Just feed him one at a time until he refuses them. They know when they have had enough. Probably about 10 to 12 crix.
When he is full, make sure to remove any unwanted crix because they can
bite him and cause stress.
Same with mealies. A juvie can usually pack away 15 to 20 mealies if they are hungry enough.

How is he eating the paper towel? Is it shredded up in the hide? Or loose?

Yeah, if you are using shredded wet towels in the moist hide, you will want
to dump it.
If he is eating it in the moist hide, chances are if you replaced it with moss, he would eat that too!
Try a face cloth. Just fold it up, wet it, and stick it in the moist hide.
That's what I have to do with one of my leos.
I guarentee he can not swallow a face cloth!!

I was just about to make a new post until I read this, hah! Thanks.
My question was about how many mealworms to feed per day to my 4 month old gecko. One at a time until he stops is what I was doing with the crickets, so that works.
