How often do i feed?

My boyfriend and I just brought home 2 leo's about a week ago. I was wondering how often AND how many of the "small" size crickets should we give them at one feeding time.

The Vet. said they were both about 4 months old.

They are both in the same tank, so we manually give them both at least two using the tongs before i put the rest in.

We have never owned any type of reptile before, so i just want to make sure I'm not over feeding/under feeding our critters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It may take them awhile to eat at first as they adjust to a new home. Feed them every day or every other day. At 4 months, some leos are still growing quickly and eating a lot and some are ready to slow down to every other day. See if they'll eat the crickets on their own without using the tongs. This will pay off in the long run. If your small crickets are only about 1/4" long, they are too small. Crickets of 1/2" to 3/4" (the larger size if they are larger leos) should be fine.

The leo's we brought home ate the first day. They were also out exploring their cage the same day too. Which i thought they would hide for a while because the cage they are in now is about 3x bigger then the one they were in at the pet store. Theyre both from the same "clutch" (same thing as "litter" i take it?) so yeah, they're buddies, and usually they sleep/lay on top of each other its so cute. But it did take them a few days to go poo for some reason...? No idea why. They are both fine now, as far as that goes.

Actually, the pet store i go to for crickets said that "there is a national shortage of meal worms". And my Vet. told me that "meal worms arent the greatest choice for feeding juvenile leopard geckos."

There has been ongoing discussion about the value of mealies as a staple. I keep my babies on a diet almost entirely of mealies (the ones I keep usually make the transition to crickets --more movement) and they thrive.

How many mealworms do you feed them?

Yeah, im not sure why my vet told me that, because ive seen quite few people say that mealworms work more efficiently then the crickets.

i use 95% mealworms in my leopard geckos diets because i can always make sure they have food in their dish and mealworms are super easy to breed. however i think i am gonna start using roaches sometime in the near future.
