I leave a bowl of mealies in the cage at all times and feed 1 or two butter/wax worms as a treat every now and then.
Having said that, it's pretty much up to him when he wants to eat.
I feed mine adult either every other day, or every two days. He is very picky & if i put crickets in for him when he doesn't want to eat he just ignores them. I used to keep mealworms in his cage, but the mealworms always escaped from their dish before he ate them. So i wait for him to tell me when he's hungry.
Our juvenile leo eats every day. About 8 crickets every night.
Crickets eat mealworms. So I dont think that they escaped, I think they were dragged out and eaten by your crickets...
As for feeding. I feed every night. My geckos seem to eat more every other day but I still feed every night, just incase their hungry.
Babies
Babies should be fed ever day of the week to optimize growth. I did the mistake of feeding 3 times, now i know..i have to feed them everyday..
Babies that feed on crickets are fed 3-5 3/8" circkets or roach nymphs everyday.
Babies that eat mealworms have a fresh supply of mealies 24/7. (these grow and thrive the best)
Adults
(non-breeding) Adults are fed 3 times a week.
Adults that eat crickets are fed 9 3/4"-1" crickets 3 times a week.
Adults that eat roaches are fed 1 adult male roach 3 times a week.
Adults that eating mealworms have fresh bowl of mealies that is re-filled 3 times week.
Well, I never had crickets in while the mealworms were in his tank. I had bought one of those feeder dishes that's supposed to prevent the worms from getting out, but they still got out.
Right now he's just getting crickets. I'm waiting to restock my mealworms, but they usually die before he gets around to eating them (if they are in his tank). I've been giving the mealworms to my Fire Skink lately. He's not picky, he'll eat canned crickets or mealworms as well, but I haven't given any of those to him recently.
