Hi,

I am Micha from Germany and my english is not so good - but I will try it yet.

I want to assemble a new group in 2010 and want to breed bold stripe or red stripe geckos.

Don´t know if it is exactly, but is it enough when I have a male bold stripe/ red stripe gecko and breed him to another bold stripe female gecko? Will I so get bold stripe babies? And if not - how can I create a bold stripe?
What´s to notice?

Thanks. Micha

Bold Stripes are line bred and Bold Stripe x Redstripe will give you some Bold Stripes.

bold stripes act recessive in the fact you can make het stripes however to get bolder stripes you need to breed the boldest to the boldest or to get the redest breed the best red stripe to the best red stripe. so some of it is linebred but thats how you refine any morph :pleased:

oh yeah and the chance of you getting very bold stripes from a bold stripe x red stripe breeding is VERY rare.

Thanks a lot. So I think I will take

1.0 red stripe
0.1 red stripe
0.1 bold stripe

for my new group 2010. :)

Do you have any other idea which females I can also take for this group to get some nice babies?

It´s not hard to get boldstripe males or females in germany. There are a few breeders who sell them and the hamm show is in a few month. So if you wount some you will get some.
I also have produced two boldstripe het tremper albino hatchlings this year from the pairing Sunglow (male) to Boldstripe :>.

No, that will be no problem. I will buy my stripes by Steve Sykes and then drive to Hamm show in March and pick them up there. :D

@ sam12345:

Do you think a male bold stripe is better for 0.1 red stripe and 0.1 bold stripe as a male red stripe ???

Robin (or someone else), did anyone specifically try to linebred bold stripes to Red Stripes, over some generations?

The examples I remember are of people trying to get bolder red stripes (by inbreeding), but not using a bold stripe line. But you (and others) know much better...

when you mean bolder red stripe do you mean redder bold stripes? it seems mixing bold stripes and red stripes causes a mess kind of brownish stripe that may have some red or a little black but a lot of times hypos out. generally not a really clean stripe.

Thanks, it elucidated me. :)

Generally people talk about trying them to be redder, but sometimes they say bolder as well. I think they just mean large and redder stripes as ideal.

if you want larger and redder stripes you are going to have to selectively breed for that. take the biggest, widest and brightest red stripes and breed those together.

no problem :)

jamie, from time to time you can find a red stripe x bold stripe cross that is promising but many come out as i stated above.
