Hello, I am new to the forums and apologize if this is a question that's been asked previously. Unfortunately, our leopard gecko died last night. It was very devastating and upsetting. We want to bury him under a tree, however, with it being winter in Chicago, the ground is frozen. We are not sure what to do with his body....Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

You might try boiling some water, and then pour the boiling water on the spot you want to thaw out. If it is covered with snow/ice, try boiling 2 pots. 1 pot to melt away the snow/ice, and the other pot to pour directly on the soil to be thawed.

Wrap it in plastic and put it in the freezer (in a part of the freezer where someone who isn't expecting it won't find it). Bury it when it gets warmer (you won't have to defrost it first). I'm sorry for your loss. If you decide to get another leopard gecko, especially if this one died after a relatively short time, feel free to read on this forum and ask questions about leopard gecko care, and to consider not getting one from a big chain pet store. If there's any way we can be helpful in figuring out how this one died so you don't have a bad experience next time, we're happy to help.

Thank you both for your replies. I think we will freeze him until we are able to bury him. We just got him with 1/2 a foot of snow, so it'll be awhile. We had him for 2.5 years, we did buy him from a big chain pet store. From the moment we bought him, he did have issues. His tail was almost bitten off by another gecko in the pet store. He was always very scared and frightened. We tried keeping his tank at appropriate temps for him and made sure we had all of the necessary things in his tank. Over the last week, he seemed very tired and his tail got a little smaller, but he was still drinking and he even shed and was eating his skin. However, it had been a while since we could get him to eat his crickets. But that was somewhat normal for him, he would go awhile without eating them. We thought it was just his normal winter behavior because he was like that the last 2 winters as well....But yesterday, he slept most of the day and when we went to change his water and give him a little rub, he wouldn't move and we realized he had passed away. He was moving about an hour before that. We were quite shocked. I just am stumped as to what happened. Thank you so much for your kind words.
