I figured out a way to feed geckos that are off their food or are new and hard to get to eat. Non-eaters is a typical problem many of us face from time to time! I figured out a way to make eating irresistable to even the toughest case. I do NOT believe in force feeding either. It is traumatic to the gecko and a big setback to the bonding and taming process. So how do you get them to eat wthout grabbing them and prying their little mouths open?
Try this.
Get some medium size crickets, not too small not big. Put a few in a small dixie cup and proceed to remove their hind legs and a few other legs with tweezers. This sounds gross but actually crickets are like crabs and live just fine this way. This will allow the crickets to crawl but not jump or scurry away from your timid gecko.
Now, in the evening when your gecko is out, using red bulbs for some minimal lighting, remove whatever contents/hides you can from the cage without disturbing the gecko. Do this slowly without banging the cage and making noise.
Then when the gecko looks like he is in an open area and calm, carefully drop a de-legged cricket about an inch or two in front of their nose....quietly and carefully placed. The cricket will start to crawl and your gecko will dive on it and eat it. Give it 1-2 more crickets in the same fashion to see if you can get him to eat them all. Then quit until you resume the process the next day with just a few crickets like this. Once you get your gecko eating he will be fine on his own.
Try it, it works great!
