How to Feed "The Slurry" for a Skinny Gecko

I have a "baby gecko" obtained 4 weeks ago from a major pet retailer. He looked pretty good when I got him...but he was in a cage with another Gecko that did not look good (very emanicipated). My Gecko pretty much looks like his cage mate did now. I saw some poops the first few days..then weeks went by without seeing poops. A week went by without seeing a urine.

I keep a bowl of mealies and waxworms in the cage at all times (with a carrot for moisture and some cricket feed to gut load). I have the Zoo Med Gecko Food (freeze dried flies I guess...never seen him eat it...but wanted another option), clean water daily with a few drops of reptisafe in it. Bowl of Calcium with D3. And some crickets.

I have been getting small crickets at the local store...but I would find some that were attempted to be eaten...but spit out...I think they were too big. I mail ordered some 1 and 2 week crickets..much smaller. He did nothing with them...until a few days ago I watched him hunt down and eat 5 (they are small...but it was something). I have not seen him eat a mealworm or wax worm...have tried to tong feed him...no luck. I have seem him drink some water. And he had a poop yesterday (first time in about 3 weeks)

Cage setup has been stable for 2 weeks (reptile carpet, warm side, cool side, moist hide in both side, another log hide in the middle (not moist)). Temps are good..humidity about 50-60%. Never used sand (not sure if he was on sand at the store or not).

I am wondering if I should try the slurry or not. I have NO idea how to feed him it. Do I hold him...put him in a small box and drop it on his nose with a syringe...or since I did seem him eat...let him de-stress and get through on his own.

I live in Maine..and the nearest Reptile Vet is over 100 miles away..so vet assistance is really not an option. Also...the only meal worms I can get are big...alot longer than his head...and I cannot find a supplies of small meal or waxworms...I think it is a size issue at this point.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I have become quite attached to this little guy!

I was able to find a nearly local supplier of mealworms that will give me 1/4-1/2" mealworms..I got 100 of them (hand picked from their stock)....they will be here tomorrow. Hopefully that will help him out a little. I am hoping his eating and pooping continues.

Aww the poor guy just doesn't look that hot, I really hope he starts getting better. I would definitely try Marcia's slurry recipe. I have a female that I just picked up but she's WAY too tiny for my liking, so I've been daily feeding her some slurry and I can honestly say I'm beginning to notice a difference. It's worth a shot at least!

what on earth kind of leo is that?
a Patternless :main_yes:

If you do have a syringe, then that is the best way to administer any type of liquid food that needs to be given. But I believe you can also offer the slurry in a small dish or something and see if the geckos lick from it. If you can't find all of the items in the slurry, then you could also look for some Repta-Aid from the local pet store. Best of luck to you and your leo!!

I got the ingredients....

I prepared it..put in lots of meal worms.

He took it well. I put in him a small tupperware container lined with papertowels so I was not handling him. it took 30 min for 1ml...and at lest half of that he wiped off on the papertowel...but definetly licked up a lot of it...and afterwards he was moving around more...I was quite excited. I was looking forward to his second feeding this morning....but I awoke to find that he had passed away. Perhaps I was too late. The picture is when toady was looking good...he looked at lot worse 4 weeks later.

Toady will be missed.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm having the same problem with my lil' one and I dread coming home from work one day and finding him dead :(
