Tell me everything you know about keeping crickets.
Not breeding, just to keep em alive for a week or 2 :)
Just pretend I dont know anything.

not much to it... food (I use Fluker's High Calcium), moisture (you can use water gel, fresh veggies like potatoes or carrots, etc.). Keep them at room temperature if you aren't breeding. Keep them in a cricket keeper or a small aquarium with a screen lid, and provide egg crate or paper towel rolls for them to hide out in.

if you use fresh veggies and stuff like that for hydration don't forget to replace them like every other day because they can get old fast and get all moldy.

I have about 40-50 at once kept in a cricket keeper with 7 1/2in by 4 1/2 in of floor space. I have not put in places for the crickets to hide out in. about 10 die a week, is this because they have nowhere to hide? :main_huh:

Oh, no, the cricket next door is much yummier than the egg crates. :)

Actually, my turkistan roaches decided they didn't like the roach food that came with them and started eating the egg crates, and I have seen crickets start eating toweling paper rolls for no good reason, so it is something to watch for, but it isn't a huge problem with them eating the crate materiel.

If you go to most pet stores they sell cricket "cages". You can get one to store about 50-100 small crickets for about $10-$15. It comes with little dishes to put food in as well as these hollow black tubes for the crickets to go inside and hide. The nice thing is you can easily slide the tubes out, hit the side a bit, and crickets drop right into the tank or where ever you dust them.
