Hi there, fresh new blood here on the board.

I stumbled across the board doing a google search on leopard gecko housing arrangements.

I actually don't have a leo yet, but a friend of a friend is a breeder, and will be giving me a 6 month old male. He arrives next week! So excited!

My forum moniker actually comes from the show name of my wonderful late Thoroughbred gelding, who passed away June of 2007 at the age of 30. He was a show jumper and had the show name of Leapin' Lizard. Since every forum I'm on more or less has my forum name as related to my former horse in one way or another, I chose his show name this time since it seemed rather fitting.

welcome!

Say, shouldn't your horse make it into the Guinness Book of Records with the proud age of 30? I thought that 29 was the previous record, but I might be mistaken. I went to many horse races in Germany (as a spectator).

Did you find appropriate housing for your gecko yet? We have a special rubric on cages here at the forums. I got my cages from eBay. Good luck, and welcome!

Didn't know if you meant horses in general, but it sounded cool that we could have a Guinness Book of Record holder in our presense. So I googled it and found a 51 year old ;( http://www.ecmagazine.net/su04htm/oldesthorsesu04.htm

Alas no, Flair wouldn't have made it into the Guinness Book of World Records, since plenty of horses live quite long and wonderful lives these days. I've been following the story of a 37 year old half-Arabian gelding who still does pretty well in Limited Distance Endurance races.

Flair lived a good life though, fat and sassy right to the end. Good old man. I'm just glad he was in such good shape. It's not rare for a horse to make it to 30, but it's not that common either. Especially if they've got good weight and look healthy.

Indeed I did. I had a 10 gallon with a mesh top anyway, so I got the needed supplies, and it will serve as temporary housing since my future leo is still small. I'm eventually planning to get a visionarium (why do so many front opening cages have to be for sale online from the UK.) because I like the sliding doors and it's the same size as a 20L. The shelf I want to put my terrarium on is a little low in terms of a top-opening cage, and I want the front-opening instead.

Thanks for the welcome :)

ok... you win!

Hi thekooliest and LeapinLizard,

Ouf, you win; I didn't know horses could get THIS old :D

I have an idea for the gecko forum: why don't we have a thread for the oldest gecko of our members? Maybe there's one among them who nears thirty... :main_thumbsup:

My barn's oldest was 47 when he died. Sad to hear about the horse, Leapin', but welcome, and I wish you good luck with the gecko.

Welcome to the forum...and nice name, yes it does fit! :main_angry: :p :D

Goodness, I didn't realize our names were so close together. Sometimes when we were at a show, the announcer would say Flair's name as "Leapin' Lizards" Doh!

Thanks for the welcome, all. :) and thanks for the well wishes on the loss of Flair. Never will forget the old boy. Although I did get a new pony back in March. He's only 9, and has a birthday before mine. His name is Mitch, which does seem to mean i can talk about him successfully as "my boy" without people who don't realize I'm talking about a horse looking at me like I've grown a second head. ;)

Just a few more days before my leo arrives. I am so pondering names, and can't wait to see him!
