Humid Hide Fungus

I got a humid hide a few weeks ago. It came with a small bag of moss. I set up the hide and moistened the moss. Not too wet. After just a few days white looking fungus was growing all over the moss. I dumped it all and now I just shred up paper towels and mositen them. Should the moss have started growing fungus so quickly if at all?

depends what kind of moss it was. spanish moss will mold pretty quickly, while spagnum and reindeer moss usually wont, at least in my experience...spagnum may actually grow fungus, but i have not seen it....doesnt mean it wont, or doesnt.

I use sphagnum moss and I've never seen any mold.

Sphagnum will mold if there's a hidden poop buried in it.

Same with coconut coir, but I've never had the stuff itself mold other than when I left a 2 gallon container of coco coir covered. :main_no: :main_laugh:
