Humid hide: how often do you change the moss? etc.

I am curious how often everyone changes the moss in their leo's humid hide... If you use papertowel how often do you mist and replace the papertowel? How can I tell when it (moss) needs to be replaced? I have a tupperware container with moss on the bottom and papertowel over the moss so my leos don't ingest and become impacted. How many people use both moss and papertowel? If your females are ovulating do you change your humid hide? What is the difference between humid hide and a lay box?

Thanks is advance!

I change mine about every 1-2 weeks depends if it becomes to dried out and flat looking I change it with some fresh, I use papertowels in the babies hides and I change it about 3-5 days they like to poo in there so it seems lately I change it everyday! lol

My humid hide doubles as a lay box to save on space.

Geckomandi,

With your older leos you use just moss? With the adults you don't have to worry about them ingesting moss and possible impaction? I added the papertowel because I thought it could cause impaction to any age leo...true or false?

Thanks...I just want to learn and not put my "babies" (they are actually almost 1 yr old) at risk for impaction...Course I guess the lay box just has moss?

I guess I should just ask the simple question, if I think my female is ovulating (she's not been bred) can I take out the papertowel and just use moss so her humid hide can double as a lay box? Will there be any risk of her eating the moss and becoming impacted? Course first she would have to eat the moss and she isn't eating anything right now...grin.

I use the organic spahgam(sp) moss I know a lot of breeders here use it in their laybox/moist hides, and so far I've never heard of any impaction cases with it, I guess there is a chance they get ingest it as with any loose substance in their enclosures. I have been using it for a couple months and so far no issues, I only use it with adults though anything under a year gets papertowel in their moist hides.
