Is it necessary to always have a humid hide available (they take up a lot of floor space) or is it enough to put one in when you can see they are going to start shedding? Different answer for babies vs juveniles vs adults? :main_huh:

i disagree, i only have 2 geckos and they are each in a ten gallon. it is nearly impossible for me to supply them with a warm, cool, and humid hide (if the humid will be on the warm side). i've tried it on the cool side and it gets freezing. whenever i see that mine are shedding i take a cloth towel and get it wet with warm water and transform their warm hide into a moist one. i've had my female for almost a year and have never had a problem. this may be a problem for people with tons of animals (having to constantly pay attention to whose shedding and whatnot)- feel free to steal my method if you wish- it works!!!

EDIT- i have one baby (i've had him for about 4months) and one i've had for almost 1 year. it works fine for both of them

I have a ten gallon and have found a way to put in 3 hides.

I have a medium exo-terra on the left side, on the left a humid hide and a paper toilet roll. She loves it with a water bowl and mealie dish in the middle. I also have plastic plants in two different corners to act as hiding places. I some how made the 10gallon work for my adult leo.

I like to have the humid hide at all times because it gives me a piece of mind.

Can you post a picture? How much open floor space is there? I find the more crowded the enclosure is, the more unreachable hiding spots there are for crickets.

I don't feed crickets so I don't have that problem, but I do take the mealie dish out during the day since I feed at 7pm and leave it in all night. My tank doesn't have the most space but it's working until I get something bigger. Lana seems to enjoy it since she likes to climb and walks over everything anyway.

i would have more room if I would get a small small cave and water dish but that's what I had left over from my other 30gallon tank so they're both medium. I plan to upgrade to a 20gallon long but for now she seems fine. She makes her own hiding spots by hiding in the plants on top of the hides. She also has a new habit of curling up in the mealie dish with them in it.

Do you take your calcium bowl out too or just provide it with the meal worms? Personally, I prefer crickets as at least part of the diet since it's when you get to see cooler predatory behavior.

Well I use Calcium Plus so I just leave whatever dust is in the plate for her to lick if she wants, but she really just sits sitting the mealies for awhile before she eats them, lol

See me and crickets don't get along so i've tried roaches but she doesn't seem to interested.

My guy's enclosure has to fit inside a piece of furniture so I cannot go 20L, at least not yet. I'm just trying to make his enclosure as spacious as possible. I've even provided a ledge to utilize the height of my terrarium (he does use it).

I understand. The ledge is a good idea but how exactly can he get up there? Instead of a ledge you could put a second level out of tile or acrylic with a litte ramp and you could put more hides up there.

He uses the tree to climb up there. As far as building something, I am not very handy.

Neither am I but I was thinking of get a pre cut piece of acrylic and just getting some aquarium glue. I've seen people wedge a piece of Cork Bark and have a little landing..

I leave my humid hide in there all the time as my gecko like to lay in it.
I only have a humid hide and a cold hide but there are other hiding places.

I don't generally like the way humid hides look. Does anyone have a natural looking one that they could post a pic of? The ones I've seen by pet products companies are really big and would take up 1/3 of the floor space in my enclosure.

I'm having a similar delimma. I would like to get a more natural-looking humid hide (I'm using a Becel container right now. D: ) I don't mind the ones made by major companies (I prefer the look of the Exo-Terra ones to the Zoo-Med ones actually), but my problem with them is the same as yours; they take up a lot of space. And the ones that don't have an entrance too small for a full-grown leopard gecko to squeeze into.

Right now I'm torn between the Zoo-Med medium Repti-Shelter and the Exo-Terra Reptile Den. I'm thinking the Reptile Den because it takes up about half as much room (and I'd be able to peeping-tom my gecko. kekekekeke :B).

I know the Reptile Den is cool (I'm talking temp-wise) but can you put moss or something in there to make it humid too?

Chosen, yes you can put damp moss or paper towels or whatever in there to make it nice and humid. And it can be warm too depending where you put it in the tank. Mine's going to be situated right on the UTH, so it'll probably be a bit warmer. The only downside is that it'll probably be awkward to mist. The glass will probably fog up and I won't be able to see inside too well, but we'll see. :p I just don't really need a HUGE hide taking up so much space in my tank, and the reptile dens only take up about half as much.
