Hybino Help

I am really interested in trying to make some Hybinos. I love the pattern and colors I have seen them produce. But how do you make them? I crossed one of my hypo's with a LV albino and got all normal babies. Does this only work with Tremper Albino's, or do you have to cross two of the babies back to each other?

Hybinos are hypo albinos. They are the same with all three albino strains.
The hypo trait is polygenetic, meaning it isnt a single "on" or "off" gene, it is a large group of genes working togeather.
The albino trait is recessive, meaning there has to be two copies of the mutant gene at its locus for it to be expressed.

How old are your hatchlings? They should hypo out as they age, as that is how the hypo trait works. All hypos, even SHTCTB hatch out banded and the bands fade away as they grow. They most likely will not be as hypo as their parent because the outbreeding to a nonhypo albino will weaken the trait, but since it is polygenetic it should be passed on. They are not albino because the albino gene is in the heterozygous state. Each parent gave one copy of a gene at the albino locus (locus = specific place on DNA strand for a gene). The albino gave a mutant (albino) gene, the hypo gave a normal (nonalbino) gene. The normal gene was expressed because it is dominant over the albino gene.

To get hybinos either breed your babies to eachother or breed them to a RW hybino.

The hatchlings I tried this with are alittle over a year old. When they firsted hatched they were all normal in apperence. As they aged they took the look of the dad. Thats what I figured, I had to cross the babies to get the albino gene to show. Do you know if one strain of albino produces better results than the other for this project. I have tremper and LV albinos Thanks the the help.

It's personal preference as to which strain of hybinos are better looking and it completely depends on the quality of the animals you start with. I'd recommend searching through this Morphs and Genetics section to broaden your basic knowledge of genetics before you breed anything.

Yeah, choosing which albino gene works best is really a personal view. I like trempers, but thats just me. In terms of which would work best, they are superficially the same thing, amelanistic (albino) and hypomelanistic geckos.

If you want to enjoy breeding, just go with what you like. Even if your not hatching out raptors or enigmas, if you hatch out what you like, then this hobby is very rewarding... And even more so if you make what you like from scratch :main_thumbsup:

I have been breeding for about 2 years now, but I have been basically sticking with crossing the same two morphs together. I havent gotten into the dbl, triple het crossings yet. Thank you for all your comments and help.
