I don't really know where to begin..

Basically, we have a little baby in the incubator right now that may or may not make it. I'll try to keep this short..

So we had two eggs from our Line Bred Snow (Nefertari) that were due quite a few days ago.. nothing's hatched. Well I had candled these eggs the other night, and they didn't look right, they were still very red inside (eggs close to hatching candle white). So after much thinking, I thought that for sure the embryos had died mid-term or something (I actually had a container full of eggs, and had to switch them to a diff. container mid-term, so that would explain what could have caused a problem within these eggs.. grrrrr)

So anyway, I take one of the eggs to pip it, because I needed to know.. I figured, if the baby was still alive, then great; if not, we at least know what's happened.

Well, here's the kicker.. not only was the baby still alive, it wasn't even the correct egg!!! I mislabeled the flippin' eggs (long story about how that happened) because the one I opened had a Mack Snow Enigma inside!! UGH!!!! Those eggs weren't due for 5 more days.. baby looks fine but sure could have used those extra 5 days! It's VERY skinny.. but alive nonetheless. I just checked on it again, and it's still breathing.. so I just hope that it will pull through and make it.. I feel so horrible :(

But so now, we STILL have two Nef (Line Bred Snow) eggs that haven't hatched.. so there's still that problem.. our only 2 poss. RAPTOR eggs are in the same group and supposed to hatch today, and so we're hoping those are okay.. and of course the poor little mack snow enigma, I shouldn't have opened the egg

That stinks, I have 2 eggs that are at 55 days @ 84 degrees. I want to open them but am afraid to.

I wish I could give you some uplifting advice like you gave me the other day. The only thing I can say is that the little guy is alive and kicking, concentrate on him and let the other eggs do thier own thing, they will come.

All of us make mistakes, dont beat yourself up over it (like I did, easier said than done, I know) and try to concentrate on the next day and keeping that little guy alive.

I have done that once or twice and the babies lived so just keep an eye on him or her and keep the papertowel moist, good luck.

Take the tiniest dab of hydrocortisone and put it on the premature hatchling. This may assist it by speeding lung tissue maturation, which is of huge concern right now. Also, of course, keep it moist and warm (in the incubator would be a good idea) and change its paper towel bedding (I would keep it in a small gladware container with only moist paper towel on the bottom) at least once daily. I hope your little pal pulls through.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate all of your comments

The little one is in a deli cup with air holes, lid's shut tight, with moist paper towel, and in the incubator (nice and warm).. it doesn't look alive from a glance, but everytime I look at it closely, I can see that it's breathing. Just now, I sprayed it a little and it licked it's mouth, so that made me smile a bit :)

Good news, one of our poss. het. RAPTOR eggs just hatched on it's own, fine and healthy :D So I'm happy about that too.. what a mess though.. even that baby came from a totally different egg than I was expecting. I messed up bad with this entire group, but it truly was an honest mistake.

I am going to go see if we have some hydocortisone right now..

I would show you all pics of the premie baby, but like I said, it doesn't even look alive when you glance at it, and it certainly wouldn't look very alive in any picture

Thanks Baoh. Apparently we don't have any hydrocortisone, so I'll have to get some from Target when we go a bit later.

Again, I appreciate everyone's comments, thank you  I'm uploading pics of the healthy baby that hatched right now.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Jess. I hope the little one that you hatched early will be alright, and I hope the other eggs are good too. I'm sending positive energy your way, k? :3

And don't beat yourself up too much, okay? Everyone makes mistakes. *hugs*

Thank you J and Ken

The baby isn't looking so good today.. I just went to spray it a little bit, and I'm not getting much of a response anymore.. I can't even tell if it's alive at the moment.. I don't think it's going to make it

It's okay, I shouldn't have pipped the egg to begin with.. lesson learned to say the least. I just flushed the baby not but 20 minutes ago, and said my goodbyes. It's in a better place now.. RIP mse baby
