So, I got a new gecko yesterday from Steve Raffaele at Western Gecko. She is a beauty, at about 8 inches, she is yellow with black spots. I have named her Ducky, because when I picked her up out of her little cup, she quacked like a duck.

Now, I really don't want to screw up with Ducky, so I have a few questions right off the bat.
1. Do I reeally need a heat bulb with my heat pad? my hot side ranges between 89-96

2.How often should I be handling Ducky?

3. how long until she eats after transport and re-aclimatation?

4. I am breeding mealies for the first time. Can anyone show me their set-ups?

You should not handle gecko when it is bought in home. let gecko get used to tank and etcs and be sure to leave some mealworms in dish in case if it wants to eat. probably 5 days or 4. Dont worry if your geckos dont eat that means it is getting used to something.
if the days are complete, you may hold her/him and stuff. oh! You dont have to add heat bulb. 90ish and 89ish is fine. no more than 90. it may overheat!

this Thead should help you. http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=48848
(this is not my setup)

Hope this helps

Thanks for the thread. Looks pretty detailed.
So, If I don't need a red heat bulb, I just need the flourescent during the day?

you don't really need any light other than natural daylight. They are nocturnal so they don't even want the light. They cant see red so a red heat light could be used for your viewing pleasure, but they prefer/need belly heat since that's how they would get heat in the wild.

so, any way that I can still use the heat bulb to watch Ducky without creating any undue heat?

OK. I hooked the light up to a dimmer switch, with the bulb putting out very little light, just enough to see by. Strangely, heats are varying between 88 and 95, just with the heat pad running.
