The City that I live in is half flooded out/under water

I am extremely fortunate to be on high ground and i pray that we will have no flooding here

At this point in time there is no water in my cellar or anywhere near the streets around my home

My gf across town is not so lucky-she has water coming into her house and I pray that she won't lose everything
I know that she doesn't have flood insurance

Please pray for everyone here that is being affected by the flooding
I am so thankfull that it is not affecting me and I feel so badly for all those poor people
Here is a press release about what is going on here

WGFA News Director and Iroquois County ESDA Director Carl Gerdovich is moderating live from Watseka
Watseka Fire Chief Dave Mayotte - 180 People Evacuated - 23 Animals - 27 Evacuations Left - 1 Foundation Collapse
And gas leak - 10 Boats from Martinton, Papineau, Chebanse, Watseka, Conservation -
40 People doing evacuations since 3am - No injuries to report.

Calvary Lutheran Red Cross is closed and moved to Trinity. Power company and Gas Company are out.
Power is being shut down by grid. You will need to call to determine if it's safe to get back into.

Water came up fast overnight. IDot is detouring across Watseka Crescent City North through Donovan to Sheldon -
Route 1 to Donovan and around.
Trying to keep traffic out of Watseka.

A curfew will be set tonight in flooded areas
Watseka Police Chief Roger Lebeck is flying over the city with Natural Resources -
Sargeant Jeremy Douglas reports that a curfew and state of emergency will be declared.
Those in the residence can stay but if they leave they will not be allowed back into their residence
until daylight

Several officials met to determine a plan of attack
Watseka Mayor John Weidert - Work of those helping is appreciated.
City is trying to provide for the health and welfare of the city.
This is expected to be the worst flood experienced in the city of Watseka. Expected to crest tomorrow afternoon.

A Proclamation of Local Disaster has been issued and allows the city to later make application
To the state and federal government to hopefully get reimbursement for the resources outlayed.

Additional manpower for traffic direction will be needed. Local merchants are offering to do what they can for the city
and we're seeing the best in people coming out in this time of need.

A curfew will be in place starting from dusk to dawn for the flooded or affected areas to limit
And control pilfering and interference with rescue efforts.
Best under the circumstances.
Shelters are currently at Trinity and Red Cross… Calvary Lutheran has been shut down.
Long Term accomodations are pending

Dave Mayotte - Day 2 priorities after evacuation. If the water goes down quick you can get back to work.

City priorities are to get the roads cleaned up so they are passable and that the sewer system is up.
It's a wait and see effort.

Inspection of areas for safety is of most importance.
Evacuation from 77 houses that were evacuated in the town that will have major water damage.
This does not include self evacuees.

Damage estimate is not going to be available until assessment is made.
Evacuation has been smooth with great cooperation.
Evacuation started on the South end of town near Belmont then moving to Park and Sheridan,
then onto the North Side of town.

Carl Gerdovich - Great cooperation from local and state officials is greatly appreciated.
Another news conference is set for 4pm.

Crest should be with a record of 27.3 feet tomorrow and expected to receed next week
that information from hydrologists with the NWS. 1958 was 26.31 in 1958. New record is expected to be 26.6
Next news conference will be again tomorrow morning

Thank so very much Brittney

The evacuations are up to 200 people as of 4 pm and that does not include self evacuee's

I just talked to my gf and her neighbor is going to take her/her husband and her dog and cat out
They have a safe place to stay for the night
Their gas is now off and the water is coming in their front door

This is just unbelievable-I have my radio on instead of the usual droning of the TV set so I am keeping up to date with the news

I am praying for everyone that is affected and I can not stress how very thankful that i am that my house and area was spared

Sandy

Thursday-Flood Update

For anyone that might be interested
Here is a link to the local radio station's(WGFA.com) pics of the flood conditions around town

http://www.flickr.com/photos/7419307@N06/

I still have my police scanner on and they are still evacuating people in boats that have stayed in their homes up until now

There is rain and snow in the forecast-we can only pray that it is a minimal amount

I am still very thankful that the only water that I have seen on my property is a small amount seeping from the neighbors yard -they have a large in ground pool and I suspect that is where the water is coming from under my fence in the back of my back yard

The Governor of Illinois has declared Iroquois Country a disaster area
There will be a press conference shortly on the same radio station and I will be listening to see what route that my bf needs to take when he comes home from working up north on Saturday morning

I cannot stress how very lucky and thankful that I am to live in the area of town that I do and to be untouched by the flood waters

Sandy

Wow!!!!!!!! Where I live we been getting alot of rain and had 2 sections of road get flooded. Calif Dept Transportation ( CalTrans) has been making the rounds every 30 -60 minutes to clear the roads of any debry and fallen rocks. We only lost power and phone for about 15 minutes and that was on Friday.

Unfortunately there are many sections of the country that are having various severe weather problems
I know that we are not the only area having flooding but of course this touches me personally since I live here

This has been a very crazy winter so far-in the 60's last week and now possible snow tonight

Keep safe Sandy. I will be praying for you, your family and friends.

All the creeks near me almost overflowed but we been getting breaks between the rains for the last 5 days. I live close to Lake Berryessa if anyone is familar with the Napa area. There is like 3 ways up and down the mountain. I love it here. We needed the rain. Besides in the Spring, I will be out there using my spinners catching bass and trout ;)

Thank everyone for your concern and your kind words
John-put those fish on ice and send them to me-yummmmmm..lol

The water has stopped rising-the Iroquois river has crested and I still hear the reports on the police scanner of boats going around town delivering medications and groceries to people that are stranded in their homes

The semi-trucks that are able to come into town via the detour around RR1 and RR24 are not being routed down the street that I live on-so there is lots of traffic in front of my house

This is going to be such an immense clean-up job once the waters recede
Again-I thank the powers that be for my good fortune at being physically untouched by the flood

Here are a few links from wgfaradio's Flicker account
These really show the worst parts of the flooding in town
These were taken from the roof of a small factory

Thanks so very much Marcia for your concern and for your prayers

I stand corrected
The Iriquois river has NOT crested yet

Here is an excerpt from WGFA's website concerning the rivers status

National Weather Service Meteorologists Eric Lenning and Andrew Krein - Have been in area surveying Iroquois and Kankakee rivers. Cresting of the river is occuring nowor very soon and is expected to hold steady at that level before it starts to fall off Fri Evening. Iroquois @ Iroquois 25.2 and holding and slow fall expected in 24 hours. Slightly below 1958 record of 26.3 feet. Tonight’s precip will not add any significant problem. Slight rise is possible. Rate of decline is forecast to be below flood stage during the day on Monday at 18 feet. As early as late last week the potential of flooding was highlighted because of snow cover and heavy rains. Downstream into Kankakee there will and are currently experiencing flooding. When it’s cresting here, it will take time for it to move downstream.
