mine dont eat well when theyr gravid.Dont force the issue.Has she had her pre lay shed ?

pre lay shed? Ive never heard of geckos haveing pre lay sheds.. :main_huh:

What i have noticed with my geckos is they dont eat well when they begin ovulating, once they are gravid and lay their first clutch, they become endless pits and eat almost anything in their tub. I think the temp should be raise 2'-3'F and just make sure your female has a lay box and let her be. Just put a dish with mealies in her enclosure. Also make sure she has enough calcium available at all times.

Pre-lay shed is a term python breeders use to know when females will lay eggs. (usually 30 days after the shed) this however, is irrelevant to leopard geckos.

Usually 14 days after successful copulation female leopard geckos will lay their first clutch of eggs and there after it is usually another 14 days before she lays another clutch.

I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing with you. I'm just giving you guys information on what I've read, I personally haven't really noticed my females go into a prelay shed, but apparently others have.

I know, i was just sort of tossing that out there as food for thought...i have not noticed this pre lay shed in geckos either..

Don't make it dependable on her shedding whether or not she lays eggs... watch for her digging in whatever substrate you have (even moist paper towel). When she starts digging, she'll most certainly lay the next day or the same even. You can also turn her around and look at how big her eggs are already. Do you have an incubator ready for the eggs? It's probably time to prepare for it, if you want to raise babies.

Good luck!! :main_thumbsup:

There's a thread somewhere about Leopard gecko's and prelay sheds...
I myself, have never noticed it but, I know that others have noticed that some of there females go through a shed a few days before laying...
I'll see if I can find the thread and I'll edit it in if I do find it.

EDIT:
Here's one thread concerning it: http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=5394&page=1
And another One: http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=5394&page=2

Thanks for the post adam.i believe my females almost always shed a week b4 they lay.Is this coincidence ??
