You can try sending a complaint to the head office of which ever pet store its at, or if its a small family owned store, a complaint to the owner.
What ever you do, do not buy it.
Aw, that's so sad! The poor thing is suffering so bad, and he is so skinny, and the shed is horrible!
I feel bad for the poor thing. No animal should suffer like that.
Step 1 is to talk to the manager/owner. Tell them the gecko is obviously suffering and you're p'd off about it. Tell them they can get it to a vet, give it to you to take to a vet, or you're calling the SPCA to report animal cruelty. See where that takes you. If the person makes it right, ignore the next two steps.
Step 2 is call your SPCA, tell them there's a tiny baby gecko dying at the store, and send them the photo. Send a photo of a healthy baby for comparison. Tell them what the store manager/owner said to you, and explain if the gecko isn't helped right away it's going to die. If your SPCA is worth anything it'll help.
Step 3 is fighting dirty. Tape a picture of a healthy baby gecko to the tank, with the caption "A baby gecko should look fat and active. The baby in this tank is suffering and dying." Negative reviews online. Calls to head office. Etc. I'm totally willing to go in and cause a major scene when an animal is being allowed to die. I want every customer in the store to know how little that store cares about the animal. Some people are willing to fight dirty, some aren't.
Do not, do not, do not give the store money. Tell every person around not to give the store money. If the store is willing to let an animal slowly waste away, or to sell a dying animal to an unknowning person, that store deserves to go under.
although i agree with not giving them money, i "rescued" one in almost the same conditions about 2 weeks ago. she had shed stuck over her eyes and toes for a month and had lost a lot of weight there from not being able to see. unfortunately i'm not the kind of person who could just leave her there, so she came home for me to take care of. a lot of pet stores could care less about their reptiles/amphibians because to them it's just a small amount of money to lose in comparison to other animals. :/ i hope they do something and help this little one.
This has become the norm in many pet stores. If you do not want to see this: do not walk into the store or do not go near the reptile section. I personally will never give money to a pet store that takes care of their animals in this fashion.
If you look at it's back leg it looks like it is either broken, or has MBD. It's leg isn't supposed to bend that way. I would be causing a MAJOR scene. I am a reptile lover. It's one thing I ALWAYS had growing up. I had an iguana that was my best friend, his name was Iggy (original huh? but I was like 5 when we got him and his cage was in my room, I picked him out and got to name him, of course my parents took care of him until I was old enough to understand how to care for him properly) He was with me for most of my life and got quite large. Didn't let anyone else even touch him except me. LOL! I also had a pet chameleon which sadly, was sick with crypto when I got her and she had to be euthanized. Now I have my leo. It makes me SO angry to see pet stores let their reptiles just suffer like that.
