My gecko always looks like its wants to get out of its tanks. trying to run up the sides, getting as high as possible. does it not like its home??

Gained plenty of weight, fatten tail, shedded twice, eats poos..

It will hide most of the time, when i look away it comes out and seems like its trying to escape.

Do you take him out and hold him/her? The leo may just want to get out of the cage sometimes.

My new Tang is like that. I gave her a repti ladder and hammock and some tall driftwood and rocks to climb. But guess what.. she still tries to get out. I know she likes her home, but she loves to come out and play. If I put my hand in the cage (even if I wake her and lift her hide) she will climb onto my hand, then stop and wait for the "elevator" to take her out. When I put her back .. she sits outside her cave and stares at me for about a half hour (She is prolly thinking- how dare you put me back!!) She is needy but I love her :main_yes:

When ive stood with her watching him she darts round the tank... With me going mad at her MOVE SLOWLY!!!

Sign next to the tank now reads "fast movers will be shot" :)

Check your cage temps, they may be too hot. If not then gecko probably just wants more room to explore. How big is the tank?

24"x15"x12"

heat mat on a stat set to just above 85. temp reads 90-95/100 under heat lamp.
floor temp 80-90 normally top end.

He always seems to stay in the moist hide (on hot side) very rarely goes to the cold hide. this is during day and night... is the cold side too cold?? low 70s high 60s
Im using a piece of roofing slate for substrate, which does get quite cold unheated, could that be the problem

If the gecko was too cold it would stay on the warm side.

I don't fully understand this response:
heat mat on a stat set to just above 85. temp reads 90-95/100 under heat lamp.
floor temp 80-90 normally top end.

Do you mean that on the warm end under the heat lamp it can get up to 100 degrees? But the floor temp is 80-90? The floor temp needs to be 88-92. I would stop using the lamp or atleast use a lower wattage. I get the feeling that the cage is getting too warm with both the UTH and lamp. I only use a UTH for heating, as do most people.

Thats my point it does stay on the warm side..

During the day
Coldest temp 70
Under light(60W changed from an 80W) basking spot 93
UTH 86
Humidity 20-30

At night

UTH 78
cool side mid 60's
humidity around 50-60

He tends to stay in his moist hide. ive moved the tank around alittle putting another hide on the warm side.

2xdry hides (1hot 1 cold)
1xmoist hide (hot side)
exoterra mealworm bowl
exoterra waterhole thing :)

Only feeding meal worms at the moment as he doesnt seem to go for the crickets (chilling them down doesnt even help)
Pooing regular
Shed last week, all fine (took over night and alittle of the morning to shed fully)
:D i thinks thats all i can tell you really.

After all this he might just like it in there.

It is possible he is trying to get away from the light. Being that they are nocturnal most do not like bright light. Maybe put the light on a dimmer. If he is staying on the hot side I dont think it would be a over heating issue.
