so my leo's shedded skin is having a hard time getting off. We soaked her some yesterday, but she kept crawling out, so eventually i sprayed her to get her wet and started getting it off myself. But i know she's been really stressed out.

i had to change her hide on the warm side b/c it's a little rougher, so when she tries to get the skin off it'll be easier. She must feel terrible. What should i do? What shouldn't i be doing? I'm not even in highschool yet (which is why i'm not as experienced as you guys)! :(

i only trust doing stuff in her cage because we have dogs and i dont want them to try to hurt her.

its okay some geckos have shedding problems there are products you can get from pet co and pets mart that help with shedding called Shedding aid and shed ease. Also do you have a moist hide for her? if she has shedding problems she definitely needs one, they need one anyway but i have no space so most of mine do not have a moist hide but very few if any have shed problems plus our room is naturally humid about 60 percent all the time and more when raining. if i see shed on them i just pick it off of them when they shed. but yeah get her a moist hide its as cheap has using a gladware type deli container and some moss from a pet store or eco earth or even paper towel just paper towels dont stay wet long and cutting a hole in container so she can get in it and keep it moist and there you go if she has any problems after adding a moist hide then spray her down when she looks like shes going to shed with shed ease or shedding aid and she should get all of it off of her then. Good luck

yes, she had a humid hide. Well, she finally got it off her face, but it looks like she has a hood (you know, like a hoodie). Should i pull it off or let her take it off. I heard that taking it off yourself damages the new skin.

Don't feel bad. I am grown with a kid and I still have so much to learn. I have a female who thinks that shedding is an inconvenience and I always have to help her. Her toes are the worst. It wouldn't be so bad if she didn't shed all the time(or at least it feels like it) and she is mean. She fusses and bites the whole time. What I do and it works with patience. I get my bowl full of warm water and instead of just putting her in the bowl I hold her in one hand and put her feet in the water. She is usually ugly around this time so I hand walk her till she is ready to take a break. when she settles again i gently take her little paw in my hand and gently rub the shed of her toes. sometimes it takes a while and even more than one soak. Another thing I just discovered is she sheds much better in cocoa fiber. Much less shed left over so you could try that.

But most important be patient with yourself and your baby. You could read and research until you think there is nothing more to know but there is always more to learn because geckos are individuals. Good luck.

I don't soak and spray and my geckos when dealing with stuck shed; I know they hate it. What I do is, use a piece of wet cotton square, wipe the area with stuck shed - the skin becomes soft as soon as it meets water. Then you can either you your fingers or a pair of tweezers to slowly pull it off. It should come off easily. Just make sure that the skin on the head is ready to come off before you pull.

well, i only spray her a little, then take a cotton swab and get it wet, and usually it comes off like that, and if it doesnt i pull it off. :main_yes: BUT sometimes it's harder, but i was able to take off a section.

If the shed is all white, then it shouldn't be a problem to slowly pull it off after moistening it. You want to be careful when pulling skin off around the eyes though, because if it's stuck and you pull too hard you can irritate the eyelid around the eye (I learned the hard way, but she was better after a day of squinting).

Totally off topic, but for someone not even in high school yet, you have pretty awesome grammar and punctuation. :main_thumbsup: Better than many adults I've met online, lol.

Moist hide should probably solve the problem. Dont feel bad for the gecko trying to shed, it is natural to them and they have done it on there own for millions of years(Just guessing).
I would only help it if you think it really needs help.

Last few sheds Daisy has had a horrible time with the skin on her head :(

Her body goes the usual pale and the skin sometimes starts to split on its own but her head is practically normal color.

I normally leave her for 60-90 mins to let her try herself but last few times she just cant manage herself, and she wont settle until its off.

Im major lucky though in that she is an angel and seems to trust me. I can easily sit with her in one hand while rubbing her head with a wet cotton bud until i can peel it off. She sits still and when i have hold of the skin she pulls against me to peel it off, real teamwork :main_thumbsup:

I havent had any problems with it being sore underneath so just try your best and like Shera said just be careful of the eyes.

I still have one of Freya's head sheds that she had trouble taking off...it practically came off in one big piece, you can see the eyes and ears on it :D

I offer a moist hide, but one of mine won't use it. So what I do when I see she is ready to shed, is I line the bottom of the vivarium with wet paper towels, wrung out, and rolled up into tight twists. She knows exactly what it's there for and uses it instead of her moist hide. The skin always comes off and then I just throw the wet paper towels away. maybe this would help yours... Maybe she needs something wet to rub against rather than just being wet herself?

Just a thought
