So I took in my 3rd leo today, it was a rescue of sorts. They had this beautiful gecko on pink sand ( with you can see on the log in the picture, some spilled in transfer), The sand was DISGUSTING with poop and dead crickets, NO HIDES!! Not one!!! No UTH, just a 100 watt light bulb! Maybe possible beginning of MBD because they didn't even know what dusting meant. I am so glad I got him. My son has named him Thor. I am already in love, lol.:smitten:

I am really happy I got him too, he is super skiddish and afraid of everything. It was funny though, I made a make shift UTH with a regular heating pad until I can get to the store to get one and he just stretched out flat like a pancake like 'ahhhh'. He has ate already, so now just letting him settle for a few days.

Aw bless he is lovely, he's very lucky to be rescued by someone who will give him great care. I'm sure Thor will be a very happy gecko now :)

Oh me too, no doubt! I finally got him to go into a hide this morning. I tried as gentle as possible to move him because he stayed in the back corner all night. He seems a bit more relaxed now.

Hm, he didn't naturally go into the shelter?

I suppose if he's gone without one so long it might be ingrained in him to stay out in the open. Poor thing!

No I checked on him a few times last night and he just stayed in the corner, he is all curled up in the back of the log hide now on the hot side. He is loving the belly heat. He is actually not to bad in body condition, maybe a little on the thin side.

That's definitely a relief :)

What a beautiful little leo! Poor little guy, so glad you saved him! He sounds like he's loving the proper care your giving him :) Probably a big relief!

He's beautiful! Poor guy. A 100 watt bulb is really, really bright. How stressful that must have been. Avoiding the bright light of his only source of heat. At least he'll have a good home now!

Yeah it was bright and then no hides to get away from it. It melted the plastic on top of the plastic enclosure they had him in. I left him in the enclosure (just removed the sand, cleaned it and added hides) It has about the same floor space as a 10 gallon. I have a 40 gallon breeder I am going to split and put Thor on one side and Loki on the other. After he is done with quarantine of course!

Aww! Poor little guy! That belly heat probably felt amazing... His stomach was probably super upset I would imagine.. Glad he's got a nice home now :D

Yeah, I am just letting him settle at least a week before I try to handle, because he seems just stressed to the max and actually figure out if it's a boy or girl. Not that the name will change, my son is convinced that all 3 geckos are boys and you cannot argue with him lol.

Yeah you can tell he is stressed. I really can't even explain how bad the conditions were, when I dumped the sand it was just one clumped up rock at the bottom, gross. This is how he's been since I showed him where his hide was: IMG_20121130_191911.jpg

Awww, poor baby. :( Maybe provide some extra cover for him (more than for a regular leo, I mean)? Might help him feel more secure. He's very beautiful. I'd love a gecko like that. :D

I understand the craziness. I just took in two sick baby turtles that I can't afford and really don't need. But you can't turn an animal in need away.
