I need to cut down the food...

Ok, I admit most of my geckos are on the chubby side; but when I look at Bambi last night, I was so shocked, she has become so fat! She has all the woods, rocks, and second level for her to climb and exercise, but she seldom "use" them. I need to seriously cut down her food.

In the past, she would stop feeding for months during ovulation, and so her weight is restrained between 60g to 80g. But this year, she didn't ovulate, so she just kept on eating and eating, and she passed the 80g max limit. I weighed her last saturday, and she was 87g! Believe me, I didn't give her too much food - just 1 roach nymph every 3 days. When I'm out of roaches last month, I switched her diet to 10 mealworms every 3 days.

Now, if I need to further cut down her food, do you think 1 cricket every 5 days is ok? I'm a little concern if 1 cricket every 5 days is enough to sustain her. Anyone got an obese gecko? How much do you feed him/her?

I am glad you started this thread Bonnie. I have an obese gecko and I just dont have the heart to cut her food back because I feed her the same as my other geckos (who are not obese) but I believe it may be genetic. Just like in humans some geckos may be prone to being overweight or carrying more weight in their middle. I am talking about the gecko in my avatar. Maybe crickets are a good option because they are low fat but I think 5 days is a little extreme. I feed my geckos everyday and they even know the time and get excited and come out and look at me when it is time to eat.
