I have four eggs left in my female incubator and I am moving in two weeks. I need to make sure they hatch before then! Can I up the temperature to speed them up?
I am not really sure. How many days have they already been incubating and at what temp? If you do bring the temps. up, do so very gradually
Why can't you just move the incubator last or something?
Too much temp. fluctuation at one time can cause problems with the embryos not developing properly, or the embryo dying altogether Gradual temp. change is perfectly fine though :main_thumbsup:
I just have another question. When I take the eggs from the lay box, which is probably around 80, and put them in an incubator that is around 90, why does this not hurt them? Shouldn’t it be okay, to take them from a male incubator that is around 90, and place them into a female incubator around 83, without harm, and vis versa? I’m not trying to argue, but is it possible for you to explain this to me?
When you take the eggs from the lay box to the incubator the embryo has not developed yet. Once the embryo has developed an drastic increase in temperature may cause thermal stress on the developing egg. I would say if you took a egg from a male temp to a female temp you should be ok, but I'm not gonna suggest taking a female to a male temp.
I don't see a problem with gradual temp. change, but I am a firm believer that huge temp. differences like taking eggs from the 90 degree male incubator to the female incubator, could be too much of a temp. difference too quickly.
We had quite a few problems due to temp. fluctuations, and our temps, fluctuated between 82-88 degrees, but it was drastic temp. change all at once, and it took me an hour to get everything stabilized again.
I am not a believer in the raising temps during incubation practice. I would rather have a leopard gecko have the natural color then the color from someone raising the temps to produce the color.
I move my eggs from the 82-83 "female" incubator, to the 87-88 "male" incubator with little to no issues at all. Although, I did just hatch out a puny 1.4g baby from my 120g male bred to an 85g female (both Tremper giants)...?!?
I'm in the same boat, and have an inverter (car lighter plug to outlet thingy). And I'm just going to put the incubator on my passenger seat, seatbelt and plug it in and monitor temps.
When I moved I just put the tub with eggs on my lap. We did not move very far so when I got to the new place we hooked up the incubator and they were fine. They hatched on time without any problems.
