I need to separate my two geckos.

So, I recently found out that my two males need to be separated instead of being housed together. I didn't know what sex they were when I bought them because they were too young and the lady at the pet store said they would be fine... Needless to say i'm not making that mistake again and will be better informed next time I plan on making a purchase.

Anyways, my question here is would it be possible to get a big tank and split it in half, so each gecko has his own space? I would like to do this because I don't exactly have room to have two tanks and have to duplicate everything. Is there an easy way to divide a tank or, is that even possible to do?

Any input would be welcome. I have to rethink how i'm going to keep these two and would like some suggestions.

The tank i'm looking at is 36" L x 18" W x 16" H

Thanks,
Megan

The simplest way to do it, in my opinion, would be to go to a home improvement store and have a piece of glass cut to divide the tank into two. Aquarium Silicone can be used to adhere the glass to the terrarium. I'd advise covering one side of the glass with paper or vinyl or something to keep them from trying to attack one another through the clear glass. I'm no expert by any means, but I would assume that trying to show off to one another would induce some stress.

Also, you'll need another heat source for the other end of the tank.

You can definitely divide a tank in half as advised by phantom240 above. The dimension you mentioned is a roughly 44 gallon tank. Divided in half, each gecko will have 18x18 space. It's kind of on the small side, but doable. You'll want to purchase a larger under tank heating pad, one will do fine if you place the heating pad in the middle so the warm spot is shared by both sides. But you can also use 2 small UTH's if you prefer that way. Although for the tank size, one large pad in the middle should do the trick.

Here's another idea:
measure carefully and cut a piece of plexiglass that fits inside the tank so you can use it as a divider. You can wedge it into the right space. Cover one side of the plexiglass with contac paper or construction paper so they can't see each other. The large UTH in the middle will work as well as the 2 smaller UTH"s on either end. You can also get heat cable and tape it under the tank in whatever configuration you want.
