Are mealies supposed to be gutloaded or can we feed them to our leos straight from the fridge? I put a few in a container that has air ridges and along with some oats and dark lettuce leafs. When I woke up this morning they were dead. What did I do wrong and what am I supposed to do the next time around. I have more in the fridge. My little guy is only on crickets right now and I would love for him to eat the mealies again. He used to but he hasn't for past almost three months since I've owned him.:main_no:

If the mealies are black they're dead and possibly your fridge is a bit too cold for them. If they're just not moving, they're in a "cold coma" and will wake up as soon as they warm up. I don't put mealies in the fridge anymore because I don't feel that I get good results. If you're worried about mealies morphing before you get a chance to feed them to anyone, get smaller ones and keep them cool, not cold.

thanks aliza, you always have sound advice. They aren't black just in a coma. So should I let them eat?

I keep my mealies in the fridge and have no problems. I take them out twice a week to gutload. After about 6 hours I put them back in the container I got them in (it has the sawdust and gutload mixture in it). Only a few die here and there as to be expected

I put my Mealies in the fridge and havn't had any problems. It normally takes them awhile to wake up after being in the fridge. I actually take mines out once a week and gutload for 24hrs take out the ones I need and back they go.

No problem. I take the mealies out of the fridge like 20 mins before feeding time so they can thaw out
