Okay, so I only have two leopard geckos, Bella and Clairebear. So, I buy 60 crickets weekly for them, and this is MORE than enough for them. For that reason, I didn't want to breed the crickets, as the cost just wasn't high enough to be a concern, and what the hell would I do with thousands of baby crickets anyway?
For that reason, I provided my crickets with only three things: Fluker's Orange Cube, a water dish, and toilet paper rolls to hide in. As it is, they're already too many in there, and they had started to cannibalize before I separated the 'colony' into two groups.
Now, I've caught a few pairs mating in the last couple days or so, and now the females are shredding the toilet paper rolls into this loose, flossy looking fiber. I think they're trying to make substrate to lay in, because I did not provide them with any. As well, I see females all over the shredded tube, moving their depositors around. I'm not seeing any eggs yet, but I can only assume they're hunting for a place to lay.
What do I do with this? How should I prepare? If they're laying eggs, I don't want the eggs to die... just seems wrong. But I won't lie, I'm completely unprepared for thousands of babies.
If I could ask, and if you guys would be so kind, could I get a crash course on what these females are doing, and if it IS laying, what I need to responsibly help these ladies bring life into the world?
I appreciate any help you folks could give me. Thank you!
