So i just picked up a male from the expo yesterday and you can hear a very faint whistling noise every 10 seconds or so when your holding him. Its weird its very faint but its defenetly coming from him. What is this? How can i fix this?

Sounds like it could be a respiratory infection, but it could be nothing, what is your set up? And if it is respiratory infection and in its early stages it can be cured by raising the temps and keeping the enclosure no colder than 80 degrees meaning the hot side around 95 and the cool side at 80, but if it has developed then more than likelyur gecko will need medication which onlly a vet can prescribe and tell you the dosage assuming that it is respiratory infection, more symptoms are deep and unusual breathing, plugged noses, and gaping mouths.

I have a snake with an r.i at the min. She's in quarantine, she foams at the mouth and makes noises. We inject her with amakin. It doesn't work. I'm collecting a new treatment after school

I agree on the Cham bit but I disagree on humidity for Leo's. Chameleons need humidity whereas Leo's don't. So a dry clean inclosure with slight increased temps. R.I's are caused by cool temps and even bad air flow, if clean air doesn't circulate enough it will get one. Like I said I have a poor little snake (well a big snake) with an R.I and i have been treating her by injecting her with amakin every three days. It isn't working so I am on my way to the vets to collect a new one that you freeze. Good luck to you and I hope the little leo gets better soon! :)

I wouldn't change anything....i'd just get the animal to the vet as soon as possible. IF it truly is a respiratory infection, the thing to do is CULTURE before starting antibiotics...that way you'll know if the correct drug has been started....

And Geckos4Life, I know you're trying to help, but humidity is something they DO need, especially in times of illness, such as this...BTW it's AMIKACIN, not Amakin. And it's EXTREMELY nephrotoxic, so i'm not suprised it's not helping the respiratory infection (it's busy melting the kidneys!)

Chameleons need humidity

... there are somewhere between about 150 and 200 species of chameleon* that occur naturally across three continents and which have been introduced as established invasives to two more, covering literally dozens of unique habitats and encountering wildly divergent natural conditions.

So "chameleons need" is a very silly way to start most statements about the captive conditions required for their ideal health.

*depending on which taxonomist you like and your opinion on biological versus evolutionary species concepts

Take it to a vet to make sure it is a respiratory infection before you start trying to treat it!
Leopard geckos do make a kind of click/weeze noise when they are frightened because your holding them up to high or not supporting them correctly.
