It would be pointless to give them a piece of your mind, sad to say that, but most of those people care for the pets as a job, which is sad. All they would see is another nagging customer and ignore you anyways. Then the news and stuff won't care about the sick geckos, because although they are important to us, they are not important to them. They would hear your story and not even take it into consideration, although you hear about stupid stuff like actors and stuff everyday. I bet that big pet stores really put live ones out there and clean their cages during inspections.

This is why I am glad that the pet stores I live around get their leos from breeders and keep them clean with big tails. To tell the truth, breeders and family owned pet stores are the places to go.

You're probably right, but it doesn't hurt to try. So what if you turn out to be just another nagging customer....at least you tried to make a difference instead of just letting it happen.

I agree with you all that animals should not be seen as inventory for pet store workers. I myself am a pet store worker, and I cannot understand how anyone can neglect any animal to the point where they die. It's cruel and very wrong, but this is the way /some/ places function.

Honestly though, I think a lot of people only see one side to this situation. There are more people to blame than neglectful pet store workers... A lot more people. Suppliers are the ones who are sending out very, very, very young leos that are already thin and have a parasite load that is shocking for their small size. Then there is the question of the breeders who are selling off little young leos in bulk that they know are unhealthy, only to be distributed throughout pet stores where they will pass on their parasites and diseases to others.

Plus, like others have mentioned, the fact that pet supply stores are selling /live/ animals. For some reason the two don't really go together in my mind.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of "Mom and Pop" pet stores that sell supplies and animals, and are very caring and responsible individuals. However, it can't be that way with every pet store nation-wide, or even world-wide.

Believe, I hear you guys and understand your anger. :) That's why I started working at a pet store in the first place, I wanted to see things changed, even if on a small level.

Those little ones whom were pictured are definitely in a much, much better place. Hopefully someday there will not have to be threads like this, or pictures like these... It's good to see people passionate about ending animal neglect and cruelty. I really think you guys should know that you aren't the only people who think this way, I know that myself and my co-workers feel the same way as you all. I'm sure that my store is not the only pet store that feels this way as well.

i agree it might not help to complain but it doesn't hurt either. there is a chain store by me and one of the same a little further away. one is always great well taken care of. the other wasn't. (not just fish and reptiles) i said something to the one closest to me that was. they called their gm while i was still in the store and had me talk to her. she was at the other store the next day, fired a bunch of people and it's been much better ever since. it just depends on the people.
