Those are nice. My own girl is so fat that I can't remember what a fitter gecko looks like.

Who is Ferrous? Is his name a take-off on the +2 ionic state of iron?

Ferrous is my male. Yes, but I'm no chemist. I chose the name because it has to do with iron. Ferrous' fired up color is a deep rust color.

As for my 5 yr old staking claim..."why not??" Purely selfish reasons. I love 'em. That's not to say that I won't let him think it's his.:main_yes:

My 4 yr old claims everything in this house hers. She even holds the mealies when I'm cleaning them. She loves all the snakes and especially her turtle and sav monitor. She says good morning to all the pets. We have 4.4 bps,1.0 leo, 1.0 crestie, 0.0.1 YBS, 0.1 sav monitor,1.1 dogs,1.1cats, and fish. She feeds the dogs and cats twice a day and helps me water the lizards and reminds me to feed the fish and turtle. She wants her own little snake and we promised her in a few years a cornsnake that she can pick out, she is excited about that.

My 5 year old has a normal. He was barely 4 when he got it.
My 7 year old has a jungle & a tremper albino. (The other Tremper adoptee went to my nephew).

They check on them every day. Make sure water & mealies are fresh. Feed the mealie colony & help sort it when necessary. Reptiles have been a great learning experience for them. They are so well behaved with them that the tanks are all in their room--except MY new cresties! :p

I have to admit, the name French Toast is growing on me. Now Jake's claimed the creamsicle.

Jeanne they are adorable. Seems like they are settling in nicely.

Thanks for the explanation. I generally think of the reddish rust as being a product of the +3 (ferric) ion state. I don't remember things well enough to remember whether there are some ferrous minerals that are also a deep red. Hematite, a mineral made of ferric oxide, is about the same color as many of the red crested geckos. You've given me an idea. I may have to use that name someday. :main_thumbsup:

Very nice geckos!!!
Wow, a lot of people with 5 year olds! LOL Mine has had tarantulas (first "animal" he wanted) since he was 3 helps me find the eggs when the geckos lay. He loves the roaches and millipedes as well. Its great learning experience for him. :main_yes: He knows what humidity and temperatures are can explain thermo regulation and a good deal of things having to do w/ microscopes, since we do are own fecal exams. He even understands were babies come from. Only problem is I'm not sure how he will take it when I tell him he didn't hatch out of an egg. :main_rolleyes:

Jake got to hold French Toast last night. I tried to trick him & give him the creamsicle one. No foolin' this kid. "Moooom! That's not mine. That's yours!"
"How do you know?" I asked secretly wishing he really had no clue. "Um, duh, mine has spots." Hello! I contacted Jeanne about the dalmation 1st! I paid for them! How come I keep losing my geckos to the kid? Oh yeah, he's cute too;)

He was tickled by French Toast & loved her tail wrapping on his fingers. I've re-emphasized the importance of "ONLY MOM OPENS the tanks". "I know, I know, I know!"
