in my opinion you should try to get a temp gun. they are sooooo valuable to any herp keeper! you can get one for 25 bucks, or spend hundreds...i like the 50 dollar pe2 from pro exotics. i have used 300dollar guns and i like my pe2 as much! this way there is no guessing and you will know the temps of every inch of your enclosures! no guessing. i have had even digital thermos be five to nine degrees off from each other. just another thing to consider, because i can tell you now...you own one reptile...but you are already addicted, you just dont know it yet!!! trust me, it is like the worst drug out there!!! for real.

Noo A word of caution- these animals can become addictive :)

I think you said this to me when I first joined the forum in February. I was like, "Pfft, why would I need any more? I'll give all my love to Toon, she'll be the most spoiled gecko ever!" Didn't take me long to realize that my gecko love can extend to a few more and they can ALL be the most spoiled geckos ever! :main_laugh: I only have two so far; my leo Toon and my fat tail, Hugzor. I'm in the process of setting up for another one. I've decided to order a diablo blanco leo from CrestedGecko.com. So excited! And after this I have to be done, or I might get served divorce papers. (My husband is not very thrilled about geckos and their appetite for roaches..) :main_rolleyes:

Is his set up ok for now? Is an infared light ok? Or do I only need an UTH period?

I think his set up is fine :) He's adorable too! He kinda reminds me of my leo; small amount of spots and a little carrot tail ^_^ I think you'll be fine with just an UTH. Have you thought about adding a humid hide? It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Just take a plastic container, cut a hole, put damp paper towels/sphagum moss/etc., and place on hot side of tank.

I got a plastic container for his humid hide but it's too tall for the littl guy. I named him! His name is (drum roll)... Liam! I just fed him a few crickets and he's hilarious. His little fat tail shakes the nano second before he jumps, he missed a few times too but he looked like he was having some fun :main_laugh:. I never thought I'd like a lizard but he's so adorable! I'm gonna get a probe this weekend. I've been sticking the fish thermometer on the surface, it ,at about 87 on his warm side. I think that's okay for him, he's doing great!

Seems like you're doing a great job :) Liam is a great name! They are adorable aren't they? ^_^ And when you hold them, they're soft :3 They're no bunny, but they're just as cute! 87 seems about right, especially if you're using a fish thermometer. Get the probe and humid hide, and I think you and Liam are set :) Oh, wait, do you have a thermostat/rheostat? The UTH can get a bit hot, so you might want to invest in one. Actually, you can just get a light dimmer. Just fiddle around with it, and you're good to go :) I have the Zilla Temperature Controller and it works wonderfully, in case you were wondering which thermostat is good.
