I wish that people would understand how much we care about our geckos.I mean most people if a gecko dies they're just like oh my gosh how could you get attached to a gecko they're just stupid little lizards. It makes me so mad because our geckos are like dogs to some of us.

I understand what you are saying completely. For some reason many people can't comprehend loving a creature that doesn't have fur. We don't get much sympathy when one of our beloved reptiles dies.

I remember about 5 years ago when I lost 17 of my geckos over a period of 9 months to aflatoxic poisoning (from the crickets being cultured on moldy food), and I actually was so depressed I was put on medication. At that time, my husband actually lost his temper with me on a few occasions because he was tired of me crying all the time.

Our friends and families need to realize that even though our reptiles aren't important to them, they are to us. They need to be supportive of our feelings even if they don't share them.

We usually get the "Awww they're so cute!" reaction to our sugar gliders since they're cute and furry but "Oh those are nice, what do you do with them?" for the geckos. No one believes us when we say that the geckos are for cuddling and the gliders are for looking at only. Unless you enjoy your hands being shredded of course. I think most people are used to other reptiles which have far less personality that leopard geckos so they just don't understand.

It takes a caring and loving person to feel for something as small and simple as a gecko. People who care deeply, sensitive people...
Not everyone is like that. They don't feel feelings like most of us here do. I don't hold it against them, But I do expect respect for my own feelings.

Here that men! I called you all loving and sensitive! Hahahah! I bet you all feel the need to go play foot ball or something now to gain some more testosterone! lol J/k

Sorry, but what's not to love ? Look at those little smiling faces (did ya ever see one frown?). Thanx, Brandy - and BTW, not ALL men are testosterone laden neanderthals that like football and basketball. Gotta go, the waves are pumping and I'm going surfing (pounds chest).

They cheer you up when life is the pits and they always bring a smile to you face
I also think that AFT's are just as endearing with those big eyes

I hear ya. People just don't get why I get so worked up everytime one of my fish acts weird or gets a spot. How can you love something that you can't even touch they say to me all the time I have been raising my oscars for 2 years and love them dearly... as for my new baby leopard gecko Boo she is really growing on me. I have only had her 2 weeks and I would feel awful if anything ever happened to her. Making animals (all kinds) happy and healty makes me happy so deal with it. lol

I would be very sad if I were to lose any living creature that I became attached to. Not to mention Leopard Geckos have a longer life expectancy than any dog.

I know a guy who cried after he lost some volleyball he had became friends with. Some may have thought he was crazy, but he did become awfully attached to that volleyball.

Yeah my husband doesn't get it. I don't even think he gets it with the furry animals in the house. He freaked when I told him the cat need surgery, and it was not concern over the cat.
