I was at Petco with my boyfriend the other day and I saw the most stunning little gecko. It was very small (maybe an inch or so in length), could climb on its cage walls, and was black with vivid colors (I think either blue or green stripes/patterns). It's eyes were pure black and its tail was skinny (like a day gecko's) I made sure to make a note of the name, but now I've completely forgotten. The tag said something like "black ____ gecko"... I'm pretty sure it was a gecko, and I'm really interested in learning about them...

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Okay! I was finally able to find a picture that led me to figuring out what species the gecko was that I saw.

Apparently what I saw was a Neon Day gecko. Oddly enough it was not advertised as such, but still, it's good to know what it is now. There are actually a few caresheets out there for these guys, so I'm considering stocking up on knowledge about them and then looking for some.

I have one that I got from a breeder in Colorado. There are sometimes neon day geckos (P. klemmeri) available on phelsumaweb.com. I've had mine for about a year and a half in a 12x12x12 planted exoterra. She is very cute, especially when I dab some fruit nectar on the branch where she is and she immediately starts to lick it. She's much less shy than my gold dust day gecko.

If you saw it in a petco, I really doubt it was Phelsuma klemmeri you say, it was probably something of the Lygodactylus genus. Maybe luteopicturatus or pictus...

Nope. I'm fairly certain these geckos were them. Although I had my doubts at first, I called in and inquired about them. Apparently they are adults that were brought in my a woman who could not sell them locally, so she sold them to the pet store.

Well I'll be! In my neck of the woods, PetCos aren't allowed to receive any "outside" geckos. What were the price of these guys again? How many were in there? If they look healthy, I'd jump on them as Ph. klemmeri hatchlings go for $150 easy...

They were going for $70 each. There were three in total in the cages. Next time I go back down there I'll see if they still have them left.

;) I'd jump on them as well, if I wasn't expecting a leo soon.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if those stores recieve an animal it's supposed to be up for adoption, not sold. At least that's what I was told.
